Ramat Rachel citadel is situated ca. 4 kilometers south of Jerusalem’s Old City. It was probably built at the end 8th-early 7th century BCE. The citadel was surrounded by a large casemate wall that protected an impressive and lavish royal palace. The citadel is famous for its Proto-Aeolic capitals, window balustrades as well as lush gardens. It also served as an important administrative center.
